Excerpt:

Markos’ hand left her chin and came to rest on her lower back, pulling her closer. Reflexively, Trish placed her hands on his chest and reveled at the silky hardness of his pecs. “You saved my life.” He cocked his head as if he was sizing her up. “You didn’t stop to think of the implications. You jumped right in.” His large hands—even the one attached to the bad arm—gripped her shoulders hard. “You could have been gravely injured.”

His face and eyes were now hard, almost scary. He tightened his grip and shook her once. “In fact, what is a foreign girl doing alone on an island halfway around the world, working the night shift and then jumping thugs? Are you that imprudent? You could have been killed!”

Trish didn’t know about killed but buzzkilled she was.

With a snappy, outward move of her hands, she extricated herself from his hold, schooling her features not to wince at the acute pain on her chest.

“Imprudent? Who did you learn your English from? Your grandmother?” she said and took a step closer. “And what would you call getting plastered—or foxed if you may—and bringing your defenses down when you clearly have unfinished business with the mob? Prudent?”

Markos scowled. “How do you know anything about my business?” His brows bunched. “And what’s foxed?”

“Hammered, plastered, wasted… how’s that for a thesaurus?”

He closed the space between them.

“What I do on my island is my own business.”

She drew herself up, bringing her nose close to his. “Whereas a foreigner, much less a foreign girl, has no such right, right?

Markos’ jaw was so clenched she thought it would shatter, but his eyes told a different story.

Now. He’ll kiss me now.

“Are you two stepping in to be treated or not?”

Two heads whipped around. The coast guard officer’s dark form cast a long shadow over the health center’s threshold.

Markos jerked his head. “Go ahead.”

She crossed her arms over her chest. “Age before beauty,” she said, smiling sweetly.

Markos eyed her for a moment and then turned and strode toward his friend.

But not before she saw the corners of his mouth go up.

MMJayeAuthor Bio:

MM Jaye’s mother claims that she spoke her first word at the age of six. Months. As a kid she would record fairytales in her own voice, play them back and then re-record, adjusting the pitch and tempo. Later, she used her voice to inspire young adults and teach them the art of translation. But there came a time when life took a turn for the worse, and her voice temporarily died out. That’s when she turned to writing.

Fate Captured is the first book in her Greek Tycoons series, set on the Greek island where her husband proposed. MM Jaye lives in Athens, Greece, with her husband, daughter and Kindle.

Book #Review Club: When a Scot Ties the Knot by @TessaDare

When a Scot Ties the Knot coverWhen a Scot Ties the Knot
(Castles Ever After series)
by Tessa Dare
HarperCollins, Aug. 2015
Genre: Regency historical romance

Painfully shy Miss Madeline Gracechurch invents a fiance in order to avoid the London marriage mart. She tells her father and his new bride that she met Captain Logan MacKenzie on a visit to Brighton where the fell in love and became engaged before he was (conveniently) sent to the Continent to fight the French. To keep up the pretense, Maddy writes him letters, which she assumes will end up in a dead letter office. Unbeknownst to her, there is a Captain Logan MacKenzie, who receives her letters. After she inherits a Scottish castle and become independent of her father, she “kills off” Captain MacKenzie.

Much to her surprise, two years after the war, he arrives at the castle and insists on marrying her. He needs the property so he can build cottages for those of his men who have nowhere to go. They are handfasted but Maddy puts off consummating the marriage in hopes of getting out of it. Silly girl.

When a Scot Ties the Knot is a delightful story, and often laugh-out-loud funny. Maddy’s letters to her mythical captain are quite hilarious. She’s a talented artist and every letter has a small drawing in it. The book is funny and touching and sensual. Tessa Dare is one of the best writers of Regency historicals today, and she has the Rita awards and nominations to prove it.
