Rafe’s Promise: Falcon Brides, Book 1
by Linda McLaughlin
Sweet Western Historical Romance
A lonely widow… a lovestruck cowboy…
and a second chance in a Western small town
Amelia Larimer loses all hope when her father is murdered after losing his fortune in the Panic of 1893. How will she support herself and her young daughter, Becca? Salvation comes in the form of a Western knight-errant proposing marriage. She agrees, although uncertain of whether she can ever love again.
Three years ago, Rafe Falcon promised Amelia’s dying husband that he would take care of her. Rafe has secretly loved her for years–but kept his feelings to himself, giving her time to grieve. Besides, the St. Louis banking heiress seemed far above the touch of a Montana rancher. When he learns of Amelia’s tragically changed circumstances, he rides the rails to the rescue, determined to marry her and bring her and Becca to the safety of his home outside Sweetwater Springs.
Adjusting to a new life together in the west isn’t easy for either of them, and danger lurks when her father’s murderer follows them to Montana and kidnaps Amelia. Once again, Rafe must ride to her rescue, praying he will be able to keep his promise to protect the woman he loves.

“Rafe’s Promise is an action-filled historical western romance I enjoyed. I’m a big fan of historical western romance and I was pleasantly surprised by this book. From the very beginning, I connected with Amelia. She appears to be fragile but has incredible strength and resilience upon closer inspection. She’s had to deal with death and heartbreak but continues to hold her head up. Linda McLaughlin writes with honesty and shares what life was life for many women on the frontier. The descriptive narration paints a raw picture of the wild west which swept me away. The plot moves at a good pace with plenty of conflicts, misunderstandings and colorful characters. There’s a lot going on in this story but at the heart of it is Amelia and Rafe. The romance between these two is unrequited love but with a creative western twist. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the ending. If you’re looking for a suspenseful historical western romance, pick up Rafe’s Promise.” – Nancy
